Rabbi Weill

Dear Friends,

We are all excited for our Men's Club to lead our Shabbat morning services this Saturday, once again on Father’s Day weekend, just as our Sisterhood so ably led last month on Mother’s Day weekend.

Removing the Torah from the Ark is, for me, the heart and highlight of our services. The Torah tells the Jewish story, part one. That dramatic story continues with the admonitions of the prophets and the wisdom of the Writings. It then moves on into the great corpus of rabbinic literature and beyond.

Our story is -- millennia in the making -- is as long as it is dramatic. It is inspired by G-d and inspiring to the nations of the world. We who engage in Jewish life are part of that story. Some among us do not merely engage in the story; they help to craft it. Rabbi Ralph and Evie Ruebner are among those leaders. They have been at the forefront of our community throughout the decades. On this Men's Club Shabbat, we will chant, for the first time, from the Rabbi Ralph and Evie Ruebner Torah. This scroll originally belonged to our congregation. It was then loaned for decades to another congregation. When the Sefer Torah returned to us, the Ruebners purchased it. They have now entrusted the scroll into the care of our congregation.

Reading from the "Ruebner Torah" at this special Men's Club service will make for an especially sweet Shabbat. I hope to see you there.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Jeffrey Weill
