Dear Friends,

How do we understand revelation in relation to evolution of species and of the universe? Are religion and science compatible? Do they contradict or complement each other? These are the great conundrums facing religious people in the modern world. On Tuesday evening, Erev Shavuot, we will explore these questions with two scientists in our community, Dr. Trudy R. Turner and Dr. Norman M. Gelfand.

Trudy is Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Department of Anthropology at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Through her work studying vervets, she examines the complex relationship between non-human primates and humans. This understanding is crucial to the conservation and survival of many primate species.

Norman is a former University of Chicago physics professor who also worked as a scientist for nearly 30 years for Fermilab in Batavia. He specialized in high-energy particle physics.

I will offer an introduction, based on midrash. Come join Cantor Gale and me for services and for this fascinating conversation! (We will have time for Q&A as well.) Services begin at 8:30, followed by cheesecake and decaf, followed by our panel. BYO Lactaid!

Shabbat Shalom and Chag Shavuot Sameach!
