Dear Friends,
Purim was a blast at EHNTJC! About 100 congregants Zoomed into our evening service, which featured fun music, dancing, and the reading of parts of the Megillah by several of our teens. Thanks to Lee Levin and Elena Batman Levin. The next morning, we chanted the entire Megillah and I chanted directly from the Torah – the first time we did so in just about a year.
The Purim shpiel, “Megillahgan’s Islands” – was, as usual, fun and funny and a great success. Thanks again to Ken Dermer, to our sponsors, and to all who participated.
I also spoke and taught about Purim in the week or so leading up to the holiday. All in all, it just felt like a full and meaningful treatment of this fun holiday.
One of our newer members recently told me he was drawn to the “poetry” and “prose” of our congregation. The poetry, he said, is the authenticity of our prayer services, which neither deviate too far from tradition nor last too uncomfortably long. And the “prose” refers to our learning, including Bible study, Torah and haftarah cantillation classes, and a lot more.
So, friends, take advantage of the poetry and prose of EHNTJC! And if you are considering joining, this is a great time to do so.
L’Shalom,
Rabbi Jeffrey Weill
